Veelgestelde vragen

Are there any actions I can take after an accident?

If you develop symptoms after an accident, go to a doctor as soon as possible. The faster your symptoms can be assessed and diagnosed, the better.

Keep a journal detailing any noticeable changes in your physical or mental state. You can do this yourself, but those around you can also keep track of this as they might notice changes you don’t really detect yourself.

If your injuries appear to lead to permanent symptoms or limitations, contact your representative as soon as possible, preferably someone specialized in personal injuries. We would of course be happy to be the specialist you decide to contact.

Should I keep receipts and invoices

Keep track of all your expenses from the outset and do not be overly discriminating in this regard. It would be better to eliminate a receipt or bill later on than have to retrieve documentation that may prove to be hard to find. Document everything the best you can.

The insurance company is asking me to send my medical records. Should I do this?

Be very careful with the medical and other information shared with the insurance company. Don’t just give them everything they ask for without question.

Should I just accept thee settlement offer?

Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated or “taken in” by the insurance company or a so-called independent loss-adjustment agency. Be critical of the offers they provide you with. Above all, don’t be tempted to arrive at a quick settlement.

Stay in regular contact with your representative, and if he or she would rather you didn’t, find a new one. Be candid with them; communicate about the things you aren’t happy about. Don’t assume you’ll walk away from this rich!

Who should I choose to be my personal injury specialist?

In choosing a representative, it’s a good idea to let your gut feeling play a role. Ask yourself whether or not you like or trust this person. Positive word-of-mouth reports usually provide useful background information.

Choose a representative who only works for victims and who is independent; in other words, someone who is not bound to insurance companies based on fees or other arrangements. Make sure that you understand the agreements made and what the terms and rates are. Does the representative have a binding contract or agreements with insurance companies? If so, pay extra attention!

Can't I just deal with my insurance company for the personal injury?

Be wary of believing the so-called good intentions of insurance companies in their treatment of personal injury victims.

As a personal injury victim, you will be up against a worthy opponent when it comes to claiming what’s rightfully yours. Don’t sell yourself and those dependent on you short and be sure to seek the advice of a professional!

I have legal expenses insurance. Won't that cover it?

Choose a specialized representative rather than just a general practice lawyer or attorney.

Legal expenses insurance companies usually do not have lawyers on staff specialized in personal injury cases. Additionally, contact is normally maintained by phone, email or letter whereas personal contact is so important in personal injury cases.
